Stephen Allen Benson

Born in Cambridge, Maryland in 1816, Benson and his family boarded a the brig Strong and emigrated to Liberia as part of the 

He later became the first vice president and second president of the country.  He named one of the counties Maryland, and the capital of the country was named Monrovia, in honor of President Monroe.  Hey made their constitution similar to the U.S. constitution and declared their currency to be the U.S. dollar.
