Born Elenora Fagan, Billie Holiday hailed from Philadephia, but spent most of her youth in Baltimore. A renown jazz singer, Holiday is best known for the controversial song, "Strange Fruit", which protested lynchings in the south during the Jim Crow era and garnered her negative attention from the United States government.
