Gloria Richardson

Gloria Richardson was the mother of the civil rights movement in Cambridge, Maryland and head of the Cambridge Nonviolent Action Committee (CNAC). CNAC was an adult-led affiliate of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). Cambridge was occupied by the National Guard for 18 months in the early 60’s. It was the longest occupation of any city in the country. She and other activists brokered the Cambridge Treaty with Attorney General Robert Kennedy. That treaty included a statement for equal rights.
