Rep. John R. Lewis. President of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee from 1963 to 1966, Lewis was leader of the march across the Edmund Pettis Bridge in Selma, Alabama that later became known as Bloody Sunday. He served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1987 until his death in 2020.
