On February 1, 1960 in Greensboro, NC, four young men who were freshman at North Carolina A&T State University decided to sit down at the F.W. Woolworth lunch counter in the "whites only" section in order to challenge racial segregation of public facilities. This brave act of protest by Ezell Blair, Jr. (later Jibreel Khazan), Franklin McCain, Joseph McNeil, and David Richmond sparked a movement of similar sit-ins across the South.
